Starseed Pilgrim: Garden + Platformer + Puzzle Game = WTF?

After brunch, on a beautiful Saturday, a friend showed me this game. Three of us from the EIS lab played it for about an hour or so, and I’m glad that I had someone to explain to me the basics of what was going on. It’s confusing, at first, then a bit addicting, then a bit tedious. Currently, it’s become a pleasant distraction from my accumulating responsibilities.

“Starseed Pilgrim is a game about tending a symphonic garden, exploring space, and embracing fate.”

You are a gardener, tending to empty noise and empty space to fill them both with colour. You are a refugee, building your own world away from the spreading darkness. You are an explorer, discovering new places, new rules, and new fascinations. The universe is bigger than you know. (

Starseed Pilgrim is a bit soothing, and appropriately frustrating, at times. This “symphonic garden” plays a lot of the same major triad with a low-pitch hum in the background. The experience is a bit poetic– like Braid meets These Robotic Hearts of Mine. What I found most unique was that I was able to design my own platformer level, as each seed produced building blocks with different properties– reminded me of that Mario-Tetris game.
